Bookbinding is an addictive art form: once you begin, you will start to find inspiration for handmade books everywhere. During this series of workshops, students will learn four different bookbinding techniques and explore how to incorporate a variety of found papers into miniature books.
These classes can be taken as individual workshops or as a series of four. Each class will focus on a different binding technique and will discuss fundamental principles of bookbinding.
5/9/18: Pamphlet Stitch
The simplest bookbinding stitch, pamphlet stitch is also one of the most versatile and effective for creating miniature books from found materials.
5/16/18: Long Stitch Binding
Used for more substantial books with multiple signatures, long stitch binding is a simple stitch with endless creative variations.
5/23/18: Japanese Stab Binding
Create strong and elegant spines for your books with this beautiful decorative form of binding.
5/30/18: Accordion Fold
Popular for creating artist books and albums, accordion books have a distinctive structure that makes them ideal for display.
